Description
This Dakota Lithium 12V 3A Battery Charger is specifically designed for use with our lithium iron phosphate batteries. Unlike SLA chargers, this charger will optimize the performance and lifespan of our 12V batteries. Its 3A charging speed is ideal for batteries under 25Ah. For larger batteries such as the 54Ah or 100Ah, we recommend our 10 amp charger.
Technical Specifications :
- LiFePO4 Compatible: Use a charger specifically designed for lithium iron phosphate (LiFePO4) batteries. Lead-acid chargers may work but reduce performance and battery lifespan.
-
Voltage and Current:
- Input: 100-240V, 50/60Hz.
- Output: 14.4V, 3.0A.
-
Terminal Connections:
- Use alligator clips: connect black to the black terminal and red to the red terminal.
- Avoid short circuits.
- Red light indicates charging; green light signals the battery is fully charged.
Smart BMS Communication
- The charger can "wake up" a battery that has shut down due to a short circuit or excessive amp draw. Connecting the charger will automatically restart the battery's BMS.
Charging Speed
-
Calculate Time: Divide the battery's amp-hour (Ah) rating by the charger's amp rating.
- Example: A 3A charger will fully charge a 7Ah battery in ~2.3 hours.
-
Optimal Speed: For the longest battery lifespan, charge at 0.3C or less (where C = battery Ah rating).
- Example: A 10Ah battery is best charged with a charger rated at 3A or less.
- Rapid Charging: For faster charging, batteries can be charged at a rate of 1C (e.g., 10A for a 10Ah battery in 1 hour). Note that faster charging can reduce overall lifespan.
Charging Voltage
- Recommended Voltage: Charge LiFePO4 batteries at 14.4 volts for optimal performance and longevity.
Charger Amp Ratings
- 3A Charger: Suitable for smaller batteries like a 10Ah battery; charges in ~3.3 hours.
- 10A Charger: Better for larger batteries (e.g., 54Ah); charges in ~5.4 hours.
- Rule of Thumb: Choose a charger rated at 1/3 or less of the battery's amp-hour capacity for the best lifespan.
