Honda Outboard Cranks but Won't Start


An engine that spins freely but never catches is missing one of three things: spark, fuel, or compression. Work through them in that order – spark and fuel account for the overwhelming majority of no-fire calls and are quick to check; compression failure is rarer and takes more effort to confirm.

Check 1: The Kill-Switch Clip (Engine-Stop Clip)


The kill-switch clip (also called the emergency lanyard clip) must be fully seated in the engine-stop switch for the ignition circuit to complete. Honda Outboard Starts Then Dies


An engine that fires briefly and then quits ran on the fuel already sitting in the lines and died the moment no fresh fuel followed.
