Yamaha DEC Control Boxes
Yamaha DEC controls are digital electronic throttle and shift controls for compatible Yamaha outboards. They replace mechanical cables with electronic signals, giving smoother shifting, precise throttle response, multi-engine synchronization, and integration with Helm Master EX features.
Yamaha DEC, or Digital Electronic Control, is Yamaha’s drive-by-wire throttle and shift system for compatible outboards. It provides smooth electronic control, easier multi-engine operation, RPM synchronization, trolling-speed adjustment, and compatibility with advanced Helm Master EX boat-control features.
Genuine Yamaha controls—from drive-by-wire digital controls to traditional cabled mechanical controls and tiller handles—put you in complete command of your power of choice. Smart drive-by-wire binnacles allow for single-, twin-, triple-, and quad-engine control. Single binnacles are available in premium bottom-mount or side-mount designs, as well as second-station controls, accommodating a variety of boat styles and rigging spaces.
For the most part, your typical recreational boat will have what is called a dual-function control box. This means both shifting and throttle control are operated by one lever. Pushing the lever forward past neutral shifts the motor into gear, and the farther you push, the more speed you add. Quad-engine control boxes can synchronize the port and port-center engines together and the starboard and starboard-center engines together.
Yamaha DEC control boxes also support variable trolling control, allowing the skipper to precisely adjust the engine’s idling speed from 650 to 900 RPM in 50 RPM increments on compatible setups.
