Recreational boaters and powerboat owners know that their boat’s cable systems ensure smooth operation from throttle, to shifting and steering.

When it becomes difficult to perform any of these functions, it is probably time to replace your boat control cables. The throttle cable is a cable consisting of an outer housing and an inner cable that connects carburetor to throttle twist grip. Throttle cable, is a braided metal wire that connects the throttle to the engine throttle plate. By applying and releasing pressure on the throttle, the pilot is able to control the speed of the boat. An accelerator cable, sometimes called throttle cable, is a metal braided cable that serves as a mechanical link between the gas pedal and the engine's throttle plate. When the gas pedal is pressed, the cable is pulled and opens the throttle. ... The most common way that accelerator cables fail is that they break. The shift selector cable puts the transmission into the proper gear, which is indicated by the shift selector that it has been moved by the driver. Automatic transmission vehicles normally have one cable that runs from the transmission to the shifter assembly, while manual transmission vehicles have two. There are two different cables one is for the throttle and one is for the shifter they are not the same type of cables. ... This cable is a certain length and fits into a control shifter on one end and into the motor on the other . The throttle control is a lever that can be pressed forward to increase the speed of the boat. When the throttle level is pushed forward, it opens the engine throttle in the outboard, which means that more air and fuel is being allowed into the combustion chamber at a higher rate of frequency. With the jacket stationary, movement of the shift lever causes the cable core to move smoothly. If, however, the jacket is not secure, it will move with the core, preventing the latter from telegraphing movement to the engine. There are two different cables one is for the throttle and one is for the shifter they are not the same type of cables. Keeping shift and throttle cables in good working order will ensure that your boat's steering works when you need it. Replace your boat cable connectors with quality brand parts from PartsVu. You can expect to get five years from your accelerator cable before it needs to be replaced. Usually, your accelerator cable won't simply “let go.” You will notice one or more of the following signs: Car jerks when using cruise control.
