IMPORTANT: What You Should Keep in Mind When Selecting the Right MerCruiser Parts
There are a few things you should keep in mind before purchasing and installing MerCruiser parts:
ChoosingMerCruiser OEM parts instead of aftermarket parts leads to the best performance and overall longevity of your MerCruiser.
OEM products are specifically designed for specific fittings and tolerances, so an aftermarket product may cause damage or not perform as well as MerCruiser’s line of products.
Proper maintenance is important to extend the life of your MerCruiser engine is needed to extend the life, usage, and value of your motor.
Saltwater, humidity, heat, electrolysis, and rough usage all take their toll on your motor. Therefore, components will degrade and need replacement over time.
So, following maintenance intervals help prevent damage and promote longer engine life. It’s also important to be aware that improperly storing the engine for long periods – most commonly during the winter months or while preparing it for sale – can cause components to degrade. Therefore, be sure to properly store your MerCruiser when it is not in use and follow a maintenance procedure when breaking it out of storage.

Hello Glen,
Thank you for contacting us. The part number of the starter for your 5.7LX is:
863007A1
as for diagnosing, unfortunately, we are not certified technicians and would suggest contacting a Mercury Dealer or a certified technician.
Best,
Mario
I have a 96 Mercruiser, engine serial # 0f608652. Can you please simply tell me the starter’s part number and maybe a diagram of where it is on my boat?
Plus how do I test to see if the starter is the problem, when engine key is turned, it just makes one fairly loud click. When I put a screw driver on the 2 posts on the starter, it did the same thing, just one click. Battery is new and fully charged. Is the problem the starter?
