Boat Fire Extinguishers and Boat Fume Detectors FAQs

How do I operate Xintex propane fume detectors

There are 3 LEDs located on the Display Unit for each channel on the system, as well as an LED for the Solenoid Valve status. The Green LED, located at the top, indicates that the

system is operational. The Yellow LED, located in the center, indicates that there is a Fault in the system. This is to notify the user to check the connections and wire runs of the sensors.

There may be a break in the wiring or a disconnected sensor on that channel. The Red LED, located at the bottom, indicates a fume buildup of 20% of the LEL (Lower Explosive Limit) which is considered an alarm. The alarm horn will sound when the Red LED is illuminated. The alarm horn will actuate, Solenoid Valve will close, and the Solenoid Valve status LED will deactivate when the Red LED is illuminated. Whenever the Solenoid Valve status LED is illuminated, the Solenoid Valve is open.

The alarm status will continue as long as the fume level remains at an elevated level. The alarm horn may be silenced by pressing the “Check/Reset” button. The alarm will reactivate after 30 seconds as long as the Detector remains in alarm status. The problem should never be considered corrected as long as the Red LED is illuminated.

How do I install my Xintex P-1BS-R?

The Display Unit should be located at the instrument panel, so that the visible and audible indicators may be easily observed. Drill a 2-1/16” hole to accommodate the P1BR-S01-D/P1CR-S01-D Display Unit. Drill a 2-1/8” hole to accommodate the P2BS-S01-D Display Unit. Insert the Display Unit into the hole and secure it with the provided threaded mounting nut. A Trim Ring is available if needed.

The Solenoid Valve should be mounted on the tank side of the LPG regulator, as close to the tank as practical. The tank itself should be mounted outside the cabin or crew quarters to avoid the possibility of gas accumulation due to a leak.

A 20 FT Sensor Cable is provided for each Propane Fume Sensor. The Sensor Cables should be routed starting at the Display Unit, then to the pre-determined location of the Propane Fume Sensor. Connect to the Display Unit using the attached quick-disconnect connectors. Take care not to pinch, break, or cut the Sensor Cable or put too much stress on the connectors while routing the cable. Secure the Sensor Cable with the appropriate hardware for the application.

The Propane Fume Sensor should be located by the propane-powered appliance, near the floor. Avoid areas where damage may take place due to cleaning, mopping, kicking, or other physical damage. Harsh chemicals should not be used to clean sensors. Use the appropriate #8 mounting hardware to mount the Propane Fume Sensor in the desired location. The rubber gasket should be installed between the sensor and the mounting surface. Connect to the Extension Cable using the attached quick-disconnect connectors.

How do I operate my Fireboy-Xintex carbon monoxide alarm

Should a very high level of carbon monoxide exist, the CO Alarm will alarm in a few minutes. However, if small quantities of CO are present or high levels are short-lived, the microcontroller will accumulate the information and determine when an alarm level has been reached. This feature eliminates nuisance alarms. For example, in a boat, it is possible to see high levels of CO for a very short time such as when docking or maneuvering. The CO Alarm takes this all under consideration by totaling the quantity of CO detected over a period of time. The CO Alarm is programmed to alarm at a COHb level of 10%. Alarm points are 70 ppm (60-240 minutes), 150 ppm (10-50 minutes), and 400 ppm (4-15 minutes). The alarm will clear when the CO level drops below 40 ppm.

Normal:

The Green LED will flash once every 180 seconds (3 minutes) while in normal operation.

Alarm:

When the CO Alarm enters alarm, the Alarm indicator begins flashing red and the horn beeps 4 times and pauses for 4-5 seconds in a repeat pattern. This indicates that the COHb level has been reached.

Remote Alarm:

This indicates that another CO alarm that is interconnected is going into alarm. If the unit in

remote alarm detects a high enough level of CO to alarm, then it will change from remote alarm to alarm in the standard alarm pattern. A remote alarm should be treated the same as a CO alarm.

End-of-Life (EOL):

Self-diagnostics to determine the end of useful sensor life, approximately 84 months (7 years).

Contact the manufacturer for repair/replacement options.

The Display Unit operates on 9-30V DC. A Red and a Black 16 GA wire are provided for connecting to the power source. Connect the Red wire to Power (+) with an inline 1.0 Amp fuse. Connect the Black wire to the Ground (-). A 2A fused Yellow 16 GA wire is provided for connecting the Display Unit to the Solenoid Valve. Connect the Yellow wire to the Solenoid Valve. Connect the positive (+) voltage to the Solenoid Valve.

How do I operate my Safe-T-Alert carbon monoxide and gas alarm

  • INSTALL THE ALARM PROPERLY. Carefully read and follow ALL the instructions in this manual. Test your unit every week. Alarms that do not work will not alert you to hazardous levels of CO or explosive gas.
  • MAKE REGULAR VISUAL INSPECTIONS. Check all fuel-burning equipment including gas water heaters, kitchen gas stoves, space heaters, gas dryers, and all pilot lights. Check the color of the pilot flame. The color should be blue.
  • MAKE REGULAR VISUAL INSPECTIONS OF THE ENGINE AND GENERATOR EXHAUST SYSTEMS. Cracked exhaust systems can allow CO to enter the living area.
  • PROFESSIONALLY MAINTAIN YOUR ENGINE AND GENERATOR. Although gas engines and generators produce CO, a poorly tuned engine and generator will produce greater amounts of CO. If you smell unusual odors you may have a gas leak, immediately call a local propane gas supplier or fire department to check for possible leaks.

Install the 35 series in the kitchen area near sources of a potential gas leak. Some potential sources are a furnace, refrigerator, stove, or oven. If potential sources of a gas leak are in separate areas, MTI recommends installing a gas alarm in each area. The Consumer Product Safety Commission recommends installing a CO alarm outside the sleeping area. The 35 series combination CO and gas alarm complies with that recommendation. INSTALL ALARM at least 4 inches but not more than 20 inches off the floor.
