Are AFTCO fishing masks medical grade or approved PPE equipment?

No. It is not considered Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), or a particulate filtering N95 medical mask. This fishing mask is not approved by the FDA, NOISH, or any other government or regulatory standard.

This primary use is a fishing sun mask. Our recommendation for using it to help slow the spread of COVID-19 is based entirely on our interpretation of the CDC's most recent guidelines. We have done no testing or any other studies on the actual effectiveness of this mask in response to COVID-19.

What else can I do to limit exposure to COVID-19?

Wear a mask properly. Make sure any mask that you wear is covering both your nose and mouth. A common mistake is only covering your mouth, but you need to cover both your nose and mouth to prevent exposure.

If using a fishing face mask, you might want to consider doubling up the mask material when wearing it. Experts are recommending that by doubling fabric on any face covering you can increase your protection significantly in both synthetic materials and cotton.

When wearing the mask on your face, do not fiddle with the mask when out in the public.

No matter what kind of cloth mask you use, when you get home, it needs to be considered contaminated and removed for laundering. After contacting the mask, please make sure you wash your hands thoroughly.

How do I adjust my AFTCO fighting belt and harness?

AFTCO's belt and harness fish fighting system should always be pre-adjusted to fit the angler before the battle begins. The harness should be worn at the belt line, with the lower strap firmly under the angler's seat. The fighting belt should be suspended from the harness using drop straps, with the belt pad positioned comfortably across the thighs. Finally, the harness lug straps should be adjusted so the reel is very close to the belly for maximum leverage in fighting big fish.

How do I care for my waterproof AFTCO outerwear?

AFTCO technical outerwear must be properly cared for and maintained to ensure the effectiveness of the garment. The primary indicator that your outerwear needs to be cared for will be seen visually on the exterior of the shell. If you notice that your outerwear is no longer "beading up" and has begun soaking up water this is known as "wetting out". This is the primary indicator that your outerwear is not performing to its full potential and requires care. The simple solution is to treat your outerwear with Nikwax and follow the instructions below:

Prep: Shake well before use. Use undiluted Nikwax Tech Wash and a sponge or soft nylon brush to treat stubborn stains before washing. Follow garment care label instructions.

Machine Wash: Place a Maximum of 6 garments in the washing machine. Using cold water only, after the machine has filled, add: 5 fl oz. / 150 ml for 1-3 garments, low water level. 8.5 fl oz. / 250 ml for 4-6 garments; medium water level of Nikwax Tech Wash.

Waterproofing: No need to dry garments before waterproofing. Air dry or tumble dry on a low setting if the care label allows. On a protected work, the surface lay clean wet fastened garment flat. Hold the Nikwax Spray-on bottle 15 cm/6 inches away from the garment. Wait for 2 minutes. remove any surplus product with a damp cloth. Check carefully to ensure no areas have been missed. Air dry for several minutes.

DO NOT:

• Bleach  - Colors will fade and can damage the DWR waterproof coating.
• Fabric Softener - Will clog the pores of technical fabrics and can damage the waterproof coating, minimizing the garment's waterproof and breathability.
• Iron - The heat may damage the performance of your technical fabric and potentially melt your garment.
• Dry Cleaning - Products used to dry clean could damage the technical features of your garment.

What is AFTCO's Warranty Policy?

AFTCO apparel products are covered by a 2-year limited warranty. This warranty is applicable to the original owner against manufacturing defects in materials and workmanship. Proof of purchase is required for a warranty claim. Only original, unaltered and unmodified items are covered. This warranty does not cover damage caused by accident, improper care, negligence, normal wear, and tear, or the natural breakdown of colors and materials over extended time and use.

Items accepted for warranty claims are required to be cleaned prior to shipment. Items will be returned and unprocessed if not adequately cleaned prior to shipment.

AFTCO believes our tackle products should be supported by a warranty of equal or better quality. If your AFTCO tackle fails to perform its intended use due to defects in materials and/or workmanship, we will replace the product regardless of age. Normal wear, industrial use or abuse, misuse, or neglect is not covered. Products must be returned to AFTCO with proof of purchase along with a written explanation of the defect to be considered for replacement. You may have other rights that vary from state to state.
