Why purpose do air filters Suzuki outboards have?

Believe it or not, but most outboard motors don’t have air filters. Suzuki, however, bucks this trend and equips many of their high-performance outboards with Suzuki air filters that many of their automotive engines come with - a wise choice for engine longevity.

Suzuki Outboard Air Filters prevent dangerous particles such as sand from entering your internal engine components during operation, such as the carburetor. This may not seem like a big issue when you’re out on the water far away from beaches, but even tiny fragments of seaweed and other debris can seriously disrupt your engine performance. Plus, when you’re trailering your boat, tiny particles can blow into your intakes. Unless you manually clean your engine intakes (not likely), your Suzuki air filter is the only thing stopping these things from entering your engine.

Moisture droplets are also stopped from freely entering the internal engine components, preventing corrosion and a dilution of the fuel-air mixture necessary for combustion. This is especially important for saltwater boaters, where salt water can collect around the intake, both leaving corrosive salt deposits and attract contaminants.

And for long-term storage, air filters keep out pests that otherwise would have free access to make a home in your engine’s intake manifold.

Are Suzuki Outboard Motor Covers worth the investment?

We get it. Suzuki outboard motor covers are yet another thing you are told you need to buy for your engine. But is this investment necessary? This area is subjective in some ways, but in other ways, it is not.

For example, boats and engines alike spend a lot of time baking nearly year-round in the Florida sun. In the northern states, boats may not be exposed for as many months of the year and the UV rays might not be quite as strong, but a lot of damage can still be done.

Another source of harm is trailering. If you trailer your boat, your cowling is likely to be struck by stones, rocks, and other road debris as you tool down the highway. Scratches and dings are the low end of the damage—cracks and punctures in your Suzuki cowling are more serious.

Finally, environmental elements like saltwater spray or acid rain could collide with your cowling at some point. Suzuki outboard cowling cover do not eliminate all of these problems, but they sure do help a great deal.

Will doing maintenance void my Suzuki outboard engine warranty?

Any warranty work done on your engine needs to be done by an authorized Suzuki dealer. Your dealer will perform the work on your engine and file the claim with Suzuki for you.

Your warranty does not apply to damage or failures caused by use of an accessory or part not manufactured or sold by Suzuki. See the appropriate Suzuki warranty policy for your product in your Suzuki Owners manual. In other words, if you modify your engine with non-Suzuki parts and those parts cause damage, you will likely have a problem.

Fuels containing up to 10 percent ethanol are considered acceptable for use in Suzuki engines. Fuels containing higher levels of ethanol are not considered acceptable for use, and can void the warranty.

Using the serial number of your engine, your local authorized Suzuki dealer can quickly check your warranty coverage. They can verify that your engine is registered with Suzuki, whether it is covered by Suzuki’s standard factory warranty, if there is any additional promotional coverage, or if it is covered by a Suzuki Product Protection plan.
