How often do you need to change the oil and oil filter on your Yamaha WaveRunner or Yamaha Boat?
Generally, Yamaha recommends changing the oil and filter for your Yamaha WaveRunner or Yamaha Jet Boat either every 100 hours or annually–whichever comes first. However, it is critical to consider how you utilize your PWC or Yamaha Boat. If you ride aggressively or commonly pull skiers/riders, you will likely want to consider changing your oil and oil filter more frequently.
Both Yamaha WaveRunners and Yamaha Boats are designed for sport riding, and that is the appeal of these vessels for many people. However, aggressive riding (full/extensive throttle for long periods, frequent rapid throttle, etc.) causes more wear and tear on the engine, resulting in the need for more frequent oil changes.
Oil & Filter Change
Both WaveRunners and Yamaha Boats use Yamalube 10W-40 Watercraft Oil and the proper amount of oil needed for your craft are included in PartsVu’s WaveRunner service kits and Yamaha Boat oil change kits. Additionally, each kit includes the oil filter needed for your vessel.
What other maintenance must I perform on my WaveRunner or Yamaha Boat?
Cooling System Care
We highly recommend flushing your engine after every saltwater use, but pay particular attention during annual maintenance. This simple step prevents buildup that can lead to overheating or corrosion. If you ride in saltwater environments, you should regularly use Salt-Off or another quality salt-removing product.
Inspect & Replace Spark Plugs
Check for corrosion or fouling and replace as needed.
Inspect the Fuel System
Make sure your fuel lines for cracks or leaks. To prevent fuel breakdown, use Yamalube Fuel Stabilizer & Conditioner or Yamalube® Fuel Med RX.
Check & Replace Air Filter
Clean or replace your WaveRunner or Yamaha Boat air filter for optimal airflow. Replacing your air filter should also be part of your 100-hour or annual maintenance.
Inspect the Jet Pump & Impeller
Check your impeller and wear ring for damage, dings, or debris. Grease the pump bearing to ensure proper lubrication for smooth operation.
Prevent Corrosion Damage
Regardless of where you boat, corrosion attacks both the inside and the outside of your WaveRunner or Yamaha Boat. Some forms you can see, some you can’t, and it can take only a short time for the damage to begin. Even those boating in freshwater have corrosion-mitigation to attend to.
Rainwater has varying levels of acid and can have corrosive effects that can be damaging to your WaveRunner or Yamaha Boat. So it’s vital to be diligent in your anti-corrosion defense. Regualary use corrosion prevention products like Yamashield to keep corrosion at bay.
