Essential Aspects of Yamaha Boat Maintenance
How often Yamaha jet boat maintenance needs to be performed depends greatly on how much and how often you boat and how many hours you put on your engine. However, at the minimum, service should be performed annually.
Oil & Filter Change
Yamaha Jet Boats use Yamalube 10W-40 Watercraft Oil. PartsVu's Yamaha Boat service kits include the proper amount of oil and the correct oil filter.
Inspect & Replace Spark Plugs
Check your Yamaha Boat's spark plugs for fouling or corrosion and replace them as needed. Generally, you will want to replace your spark plugs annually.
Cooling System Care
While you need to flush your Yamaha Jet Boat engine after every saltwater use, paying extra attention during annual maintenance is crucial. Regular flushing prevents buildup that could lead to overheating or corrosion. If you boat in saltwater, in addition to flushing with freshwater, use a high-quality salt remover like Salt Off. If you boat in freshwater, regularly flushing is still really important to avoid accumulating dirt and debris that will ultimately impact your engine's performance.
Inspect the Fuel System
Inspect fuel lines for leaks or cracks. To prevent fuel break down, use Yamalube Fuel Stabilizer & Conditioner or Yamalube® Fuel Med RX.
Check & Replace Air Filter
Clean or replace your Yamaha Jet Boat air filter as needed for optimal performance. The conditions in which you boat greatly influence how often you need to change your air filter. For instance, boating proximate to an area impacted by forest fires might require an air filter changer earlier than usual.
Jet Pump & Impeller Inspection
Examine your impeller and wear ring for damage, dings, or debris that could impact performance. Grease the pump bearing to ensure smooth operation.
Battery Maintenance
Regularly inspect your Yamaha Boat battery for charge level and terminal corrosion. Use a trickle charger for long-term storage. Also, protect your battery's terminals from corrosion with a high-quality battery cleaner/terminal protector.
Hull & Exterior Maintenance
Regularly inspect your Yamaha Jet Boat's hull for cracks, damage, or gel coat scratches. Clean with high-quality boat soap and apply marine-grade wax. Also, drain plugs should be replaced every few years to prevent leaks.
Steering & Controls Inspection
Check your steering and throttle cables for wear or binding. Use Yamalube marine grease to lubricate linkages and moving parts.
Safety Equipment Check
Make sure your kill switch, kill switch lanyard, and emergency shut-off features are in good working order. Also, check your fire extinguisher, PFDs, and other critical boat safety gear.
